Want the numbers behind the headlines?

WISE is our live network data hub β€” defects, drainage, gritting, the forward works programme and more.

Articles

Micro, Mini and Standard articles β€” the same three tiers the service uses to keep sign-off proportionate to reach: unsigned weekly notes up to full quarterly features with Kier Group and WNC sign-off.

Response by priority

P1–P4 are the council's core response bands, each with its own target: P1 within 24 hours, P2 within 7 days, P3 within 28 days, P4 within 26 weeks.

Repair methods in use

Where each repair technology has been deployed, drawn from crew site-visit records matched to a job location. Only of logged method visits in this sample also matched a geocoded job β€” treat this as an indicative pattern, not a full picture.

Road condition & forward programme

Every carriageway section the council's HEAT (Holistic Evaluation and Assessment Tool) model has scored for possible resurfacing, drawn from the 2025 network condition survey. This is a separate system from the P1–P4 defect priorities elsewhere in this app β€” HEAT ranks planned resurfacing schemes, not reactive repairs.

No map here: this dataset records road name, ward and parish but not GPS coordinates, so sections can't be plotted without further geocoding work.

Sections flagged, by treatment

Programme cost, by treatment

HEAT score distribution

Higher scores indicate greater benefit relative to cost under the council's model β€” these sections rank higher for future programmes.

Most-flagged wards

Scheme priority list

Ranked by the model's scheme priority β€” lower numbers rank higher.

Gully & drainage health

Built from cyclical gully inspections across the borough. "Flow issue" means the gully was not left running freely at the point of inspection; "not cleaned" means the node was left as found rather than cleared.

Where the assets are

Live gritter tracking β€” simulated

A working preview of what live fleet tracking could look like on this site, once gritters are fitted with GPS telematics. The five routes and vehicle positions below are simulated, not real β€” no gritter data is currently fed into this system.

Map tiles Β© OpenStreetMap contributors. Routes are illustrative loops between parish centres, not real gritting circuits.

Track a report

Search by reference number, road name or parish to see where a report stands.

Report a highway issue

Tell us what's wrong and roughly where. Council teams triage every report and assign a priority band before scheduling work.

2. Where is it?

3. Describe it

4. Your details (optional)

Only used if we need more information β€” not required to submit.

Concept only β€” nothing here leaves your device. A real version would create a job in the council's highway maintenance system.

Forward programme

Live from the council's works-tracking export β€” real scheduled dates, traffic management and permit status for upcoming construction. This is a different source from the Transparency tab's annual scheme list and from the HEAT road-condition model: this is the operational build schedule, updated as work is planned and permitted.

What submitted GPS road sections could look like

A mockup, not real data: seven example schemes shown as line sections rather than single points, anchored to each parish's approximate centre. Once real GPS traces are submitted per scheme, the actual road alignment would render here instead.

Transparency & spend

The council's official Department for Transport highways maintenance transparency report β€” network scale, road condition, spending and the works programme, published annually. This is separate from the live operational sample shown elsewhere in this concept.
